Oil Spill Update

Cleanup efforts are underway in the oil and gas spill that took place last week in the Poorhouse Creek where it flows under Rock Creek Road in Franklin County, just outside the Tullahoma city limits. State agencies worked quickly and thoroughly to make sure both companies involved clean up the damage.

State finds oil, gas and dead fish in Poorhouse Creek

As if the oil in the Gulf of Mexico isn’t enough, the Tullahoma area suffered an oil slick of its own this week in Poorhouse Creek, near Holman Lane just north of where it flows into Rock Creek in Franklin County.

Raymond Blake Taylor of Mumford, Ala., an employee of Alabama Car Crushers, has been cited for pollution of state waters by the Tennessee Wildlife Resource Agency (TWRA), and the company itself has been informed by the Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation (TDEC) that it will be responsible for cleaning up the site, including the contaminated soil.

Lt. Gov. Ron Ramsey announced the appointment of Sen. Jack Johnson (R- College Grove) as Senate Commerce Chairman.  Sen. Bo Watson (R-Hixon) was named chair of Senate Government Operations Committee to fill the vacancy created by the shuffling of committee members.
